Deputy Injured in Crash

A Pickens County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured early this morning after losing control of his vehicle on Edinburgh Lane in the Easley community.

The accident which occurred at approximately 4:25am is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Deputy identified as Thomas Camp has been employed with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office since July of 2011 and is currently admitted to the Greenville Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Early indications are that the Deputy was responding to a call of a large animal in the roadway when his 2014 Ford patrol car left the shoulder of the road and struck a tree.

The vehicle was not responding with blue lights and siren due to the nature of the call and the Deputy was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The patrol unit is estimated to be at a total loss.

Sheriff Rick Clark stated that “We were blessed in that the Deputy did not lose his life and we pray for his speedy recovery. We will continue to look into the circumstances of this collision in regards to our policies and procedures as the South Carolina Highway Patrol conducts their investigation”.
