Troopers say a speeding driver lost control of his truck in a steep curve, and crashed into cars parked in a homeowner's yard.
Terry Smith says he heard a boom, then saw that a truck had flown off Mount Carmel Road and hit his classic Mustang. The crash shoved it into another Mustang in the drive.
He says this kind of accident has been a problem for years. “I’ve been here a little over 17 years, there have been at least 14 or 15 cars come off, from motorcycles to cars, and they’ve been two to get seriously hurt, other than that, everybody else has been able to walk away," says Smith.
Smith says drivers crashing in his yard have destroyed six classic Mustangs he owned, along with several trucks. A driver hit his house in one of the accidents.
Troopers charged Daniel Mayhew with driving while impaired in Friday's incident. He's in jail under $10,000 bond.
Smith and his sister have asked the D.O.T. in the past to put up a guardrail, but officials denied their request. News 13 contacted D.O.T. officials and they agreed to meet with the family and to review whether a guardrail is needed.
