Tools for Schools Distribution Day
A record year of collections for News 13's Annual Tools for Schools means a record year for distribution Monday.
Your generosity filled a 48-foot trailer with schools supplies. News 13's Victoria Dunkle was there as the team of volunteers help Eblen Charities prepare to give away all of the pencils, paper, backpacks, and more.
Bill Murdock, Executive Director of Eblen Charities said they estimated 1.4 million school supply items came in from people across Western North Carolina. He says, "It just means we are going to be able to help a lot more families. It shows what happened when you get companies, organizations, and communities a vision in good will, and show them how they can come together and help families. Not any one of us could have done this alone."
Ingles Markets Director of Advertising, Melissa Leavell says, " We want to thank everyone in Western North Carolina and our customers for making this a record year."
The Tools for Schools program is a partnership between Eblen Charities,WLOS, Ingles Markets, Clear Channel Radio, and Asheville Citizen-Times. But they all say the crucial partners are you.
Monday's distribution starts at 9:00 A.M. and goes until 5:00 P.M. It is taking place behind the Eblen Charities office, in The Westgate Shopping Center in Asheville. Families in need to bring a photo I.D., their social security card, and the social security cards for the children. They need to show that the children are living in the home with the parent or guardian. To find out more call 828-242-2848.
