Fatal Crash on Smokey Park Highway
Police have released the name of the man killed Wednesday morning in a motorcycle wreck on Smokey Park Highway.
David Christopher Dadak, from Candler died at the scene of the accident.
Witnesses say Dadak, 35, was driving his motorcycle west bound on Smokey Park Hwy at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the right, in the middle turn lane and weaving in and out of traffic.
Another vehicle, operated by Sheryl Wiggins, 52, from Candler, was waiting to make a left turn into Westridge Shopping Center located at 901 Smokey Park Hwy. As Wiggins made her left turn, Dadak began approaching the same intersection at a high rate of speed. Dadak hit the front of Wiggins' vehicle, which caused him to be ejected from his motorcycle. Dadak died on the scene.
Prior to the wreck, an APD officer attempted to stop Dadak on an unrelated traffic violation. This occurred approximately two miles east from where the collision took place. The motorcycle fled the attempted traffic stop, the APD officer immediately discontinued the stop, made a U-turn in the opposite direction, and notified APD Communications.
A short time later, APD was notified of a motorcycle collision involving Dadak and Wiggins. The investigation is ongoing and no charges are expected to be filed.
