Courthouse Security Changes
A judge tells Jackson County it needs better security at its Justice Center. Superior Court Judge Brad Letts wrote commissioners ordering only one entrance into the courthouse by Jan. 1. He says there must be a metal detector and an officer at the entrance, and he wants cameras upgraded inside and out.
Letts says the Justice Center lacks a minimum level of fundamental security safeguards.
"We don't disagree with where he's coming from. We believe we need to strengthen the security in the building. And we're going to do what's necessary to try to implement those measures that he's identified here," says County Manager Chuck Wooten.
Wooten says commissioners will address the security issues at their next meeting scheduled for Sept. 15.
