Officer Shooting Linked to Three Other Killings
At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, investigators said the man who shot an officer at the Greenville Law Enforcement Center -- then took his own life -- also killed three other people.
Officials say the suspect, 23-year-old Evan Bennett, turned the gun on himself after shooting and injuring the officer and killing his stepfather.
Stephen Loftis, the Greenville County Sheriff, says Bennett is also responsible for the killings of two security guards on the Hollingsworth property last week.
Loftis says Bennett's stepfather's discovery of the one of the dead security guards badges led to their confrontation.
He says Bennett shot his stepfather Gregory Jones in the face with a shotgun, killing him.
Shortly after, he headed over here to the law-enforcement center and got into the shootout with the police officer.
The officer is in serious but stable condition, and his identity is not being released.
