Large Animal Rescue Training

Emergency responders are in Yadkin County this week learning the latest and safest ways to rescue large animals during disasters and emergencies.

An animal rescue team is teaching the courses.

It uses live animals along with 500 dummies, placed in multiple life threatening scenarios.

From burning barns, to horses stuck in ponds and mud holes, the responders are learning the best practices to rescue the animals without injury.

Dr. Rebecca Giminez, Large Animal Rescue Expert, "this is 1,200 pounds of animal. It does not speak English, it does not understand what I am asking it to do and it's very afraid or maybe even injured."

The training is all thanks to Winston Salem foundation grant called "HERO" or Horse Emergency Rescue Organization.
