Areas of the mountains are experiencing landslides, flooding, and downed trees and power lines.
The following routes have closures in place due to landslides:
- N.C. 9 south of Black Mountain in Buncombe County is closed in both directions.
- Highway 90 North near Collettsville in Caldwell County. The road is closed one mile north of Abington Road. NCDOT crews are surveying the area;
- U.S. 74A in the Gerton community of Henderson County. One of two lanes is closed between Grant Mountain Rd and Bearwallow Mountain Rd due to debris in roadway from mudslide.
- Middle Fork Road near the Gerton/Bat Cave communities of Henderson County. NCDOT crews are surveying the area; and Holder Branch Road in eastern Haywood County. Access to several homes is blocked. NCDOT crews are surveying the area.
In Asheville, Riverside Drive is closed from Craven Street to the train trestle.
In Transylvania County, road closures include Wilson Rd near the water treatment plant and Davidson River Road.
Other road issues:
McDowell County: Mill Creek Road is closed heading south near I-40 due to a shoulder failure. Motorist should use I-40 to US 70.
Mitchell County: Whitson Rd closed due to flooding.
Buncombe County: One lane of Crooked Creed Road has been reopened near NC-9. Road washed out.
Henderson County: Butler Bridge Road closed due to flooding.
Marion: Crawford St. is closed due to landslide.
Barricades are placed at locations that give drivers an opportunity to take an alternate route. High water across roadways should be considered hazardous. Do not try to drive across water standing on roads.
