DOT Contractors Seriously Hurt by Tree

Two NCDOT contractors were seriously hurt when a tree crashed down on top of them in Henderson County Thursday morning.  It happened on Sugarloaf Road near Ruby Lane as workers cut trees along the shoulder.

The two men, 45-year-old Randy Self and 39-year-old Jimmy Roberts, were rushed to Mission Hospital, one with a chest injury and the other an injured hip.

Eyewitness Maria Martinez told News 13's Mario Boone, "I was inside my house when I hear somebody screaming, but at the beginning I thought they were joking."

Self is currently listed in good condition and Roberts is reportedly in fair condition.

Representatives from both the DOT and the contractor declined comment.
