Cigarette Price Hike Could Burn
Price hikes on cigarettes that kick in this week may burn small businesses. It's a six to eight cent rise in price per pack for all of the major cigarette brands.
The tobacco big three - R.J. Reynolds, Phillip Morris and Lorillard are ticking up prices for wholesalers. Individual stores will have the option whether to eat the extra pennies, or pass the charge off onto customers.
Alexander Pit Stop Manager Joy Harrill in Forest City says she likely won't bump up the price for customers, at least not in the beginning.
Harrill says representatives from one of the companies stopped by her business yesterday and told her about the increase.
Harrill says cigarettes are a big part of business - second only to beer sales.
