Topless Rally Debate
The debate over Asheville's topless rallies heats up again, when an opponent photoshops the faces of several local leaders onto pictures from last summer's high-profile gathering downtown. City Councilman Cecil Bothwell, Buncombe County District Attorney Ron Moore and Asheville Police Chief William Anderson were targeted in an e-mail sent to about 2,000 people. Former City Councilman Carl Mumpower says current leaders aren't doing anything to stop another topless rally planned for this summer. Bothwell says Mumpower is paying too much attention to an issue that would run its course, if not for all the publicity. D.A. Moore says people "should consider the source." Mumpower says there will be be more e-mails leading up to what would be Asheville's 3rd Annual "Go Topless Day" rally. He says he will continue to call on local leaders to try to stop the event.
