Young Poet in National Competition
A 10-year-old Arden boy with cerebral palsy is making a name for himself as a poet. Diego Adams recently wrote a poem about a time when he was bullied, and kept his self-esteem. It was entered into the Fatherhood Challenge national poetry contest. However, Diego does not have a father actively involved in his life. He attributes his confidence, self-esteem and poetry ability to his mother LaTanya Adams, and his new mentor Kevin Geagan.
Diego's second poem called "Commitment of Your Time" is a call to all men to be mentors to boys without father figures in their lives. Diego says Kevin has taught him that a real father "will be there for that kid and never let anything happen to that kid." While Diego did not win the Fatherhood Challenge, his poem got over 2 thousand votes, and captured the hearts of his friends and family.
