Rite-Aid Armed Robbery

Asheville police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery at a pharmacy on Tunnel Road.

They responded to the Rite-Aid at the intersection of Riceville Road, right across from the VA Hospital.

The call came-in right before 9:30am that someone had just robbed the pharmacy and then headed north.

Investigators spent a few hours collecting any evidence inside the store.

They say the pharmacy staff responded well under pressure and that no one was injured by a non-descriptive gunman who knew exactly what he wanted.

Sgt. Geoffrey Rollins, Asheville Police Dept,"white male, wearing a ball cap, white t-shirt and shorts.. displayed a handgun... Demanded various prescription medications.. and fled on foot."

A K-9 unit was used to check a stretch of Riceville Road, but we're told the dog didn't come-up with anything that might lead them to the gunman.

Police are working on surveillance photos right now that they plan to release later.

Investigators also say they are aware of a similar armed robbery yesterday at a pharmacy in Spruce Pine.

They're not ruling out the possibility the two cases may be connected, but for now, they are focusing on their suspect at-large.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.
