The stepmother of a 4-year-old Haywood County boy faces charges in connection with his death. Julia Swayngim is charged with accessory after the fact.
Her husband, Michael Swayngim is in jail on first degree murder charges after his son, Jake Russell died last summer. He claimed his son gasped for air after giving him a bath and put him to bed at their home near Canton. He was rushed to Mission hospital but died there.
Initially, Swayngim's wife backed up his story. Later, she told investigators Michael hit Jake and banged his head into a wall. But according to search warrants, she had previously told them she wasn't present when Michael allegedly hit the child.
Now, Julia Swayngim is charged with providing false information to law enforcement. She remains in custody on $100,000 bond. She has a court date set for June 12th.
