Body Pulled From French Broad River

Asheville Police say a body was discovered by a fisherman in the 200 block of Emma Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Asheville Fire Department's Search and Rescue Team was called in to help recover the body. Investigators say it's too early to tell whether the body is male or female. They do say it is badly decomposed, indicating that it had been in the water for sometime. The State Medical Examiners Office has been notified.

A woman who saw our reports came to the scene saying she believed the body was her brother's. She tells News 13's Megan Schiering he had been missing for almost 15 days.

Investigators say the body was that of a missing black male in his 50's. Authorities aren't releasing the person's name, but believe he was reported missing May 30th.
