Deputies: Teen Drowned in Restricted Area
The area where a Henderson County teen drowned Monday night was restricted and closed to the public, according to sheriff's spokesman Maj. Frank Stout.
19-year-old former prep football star Tre Carter and three friends were diving from a Norfolk Southern railroad trestle into Lake Summit where depths reach 80 feet and temperatures are as cold as 39 degrees.
Carter began having trouble swimming and went under before his friends could get to him.
Stout told News 13's Mario Boone Tuesday deputies have written numerous trespassing citations to people caught diving off the trestle.
Dive teams from as far away as Oconee County, Greenville County, and Spartanburg County, SC were called in to assist Henderson County rescuers with locating Carter's body. Stout said the plan was to search until nightfall if the weather allowed.
Carter graduated North Henderson High School in 2012. He was described as well known and well liked by his peers and community. His family declined to comment to News 13.
