Proposed Dog Park

Big news for dog lovers. City planners will be part of a special meeting Thursday night about a dog park in North Asheville.

The eight acre site is located at the former Thoms Estate off Beaver Dam Road. Right now it's largely covered by trees. Residents have been searching for a spot for over a year. Ark Development came forward and is donating the land.

The City of Asheville has committed to match a $5,000 donation with the money going towards construction. There are also plans to develop a greenway for safe pedestrian and bike traffic.

The public is encouraged to attend Thursday's meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Ira B. Jones Elementary School.
