Folkmoot Begins Wednesday
North Carolina’s official international festival is about to begin, right here in our mountains. Folkmoot USA starts Wednesday. But countries like Japan arrived Tuesday in Waynesville.
Every year, performers from several countries come to represent their unique cultures through folk music and dance. And since this is the festival's 30th year, there's a nod to our local flavor.
Executive Director Karen Babcock says, “We've got six performances that include local cloggers and blue grass musicians and our closing ceremony includes the Warriors Anikituhwa from Cherokee. Loic Ablancous from Martinique says, “It’s very interesting to meet other countries and to participate in the big festival." Folkmoot kicks off with family night at the Friendship Center in Waynesville Wednesday night and ends with the candlelight closing at Lake Junaluska July 28th.
