911 Center Upgrades & Employment
The Henderson County Sheriff's Department has landed a state grant that will bring major improvements in the critical area of emergency response. More than $3.5 million will be used to retrofit and relocate a 911 operation that's more than 15 years old.
Telecommunicators will now have better tools to get their job done. Parts for their aging equipment are hard to come by. A mid-90's call center is about to be transported into the 21st century. The new operation also involves a move across the street into a large space in the new law enforcement center. Dispatchers will be in the same building as the men and women they work with so closely.
The move will take about a year and a half once it begins.
