UPDATE: I-26 East Accident
Asheville Police have released the names of the two people who died in an early morning wreck on I-26.
It happened just before 3:30 A.M. on I-26 East between the 32 and 33 mile markers. The eastbound lanes on I-26 in this area were closed for more than 3 hours.
Police say 63 year-old Dennis Tornquist, of Brevard, got on I-26 eastbound at Long Shoals Road, but was driving the wrong way. Truckers alerted police, who tried to stop the man.
Tornquist's Honda Civic hit the rear axles of a Volvo tractor trailer driven by Jackie Taylor, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Tornquist's car then collided head on with a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 61 year-old Fredrick King, of Canton.
The drivers of the SUV and Car died at the scene. The truck driver was not injured.
