Mosquito Boom

Record rainfall is causing some serious problems across the mountains and the Upstate.  A booming mosquito population is one of them.  Experts estimate this part of the country is getting hit with three-years worth of the biting insects in just one season.  This situation is actually good for some people.  The folks who work at mosquito control are busy.  The insects can carry diseases that lead to encephalitis.  Public health officials say the best defense is eliminating standing water where they breed and wearing effective mosquito repellent.   By Frank Kracher
