"Tools For Schools" Handed Out
Eblen Charities headquarters in West Asheville might have been the happiest place in the mountains today. For many, standing in line was nothing short of a gift.
"It was a God-sent thing," says Deborah Jeter, who brought neighbors in need of school supplies with her. The annual "Tools For Schools" drive held last week collected enough supplies to equip thousands of children.
"When I found out it was today I said how marvelous," says Jeter. "I got up at six to bring my neighbors because that's what it's all about is giving."
"We've seen at least double what we saw last week at this point," said executive director Bill Murdock Tuesday morning.
"It's good economically for families that don't have a lot of money," says Kenny Keener, who brought his two daughters and a niece to get everything from book bags to colored pencils.
The supplies that weren't distributed will be donated to local schools.
