Mystery Cat Caught On Camera
Photos of a large cat surfaced on the internet three weeks ago. There were questions about who took the photo, where it was snapped and whether the animal had been digitally altered.
But Wednesday, a resident of Rutherford County's Clearwater Creek subdivision said that a motion-activated surveillance camera he had placed on a shed snapped the shots around 7:30PM one evening in late July.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission identified the animal to be a bobcat, approximately 20 to 24 inches long.
Residents said, since the photos began circulating they've kept a closer eye on animals.
One neighborhood resident who lives near where the photos were taken says her dogs have been acting strangely for weeks, she said she believes the cat is still living in woods nearby.
Treasurer of neighborhood's Property Owner Association Joyce Mitchell said three cats belonging to residents disappeared in the weeks before the bobcat was photographed.
