Wednesday Morning Traffic Recap
UPDATE (9:00 A.M.): Highway Patrol has cleared the scene of the crash on Fruitland Road near Hendersonville. The road is back open. Traffic is also back up to speed on I-26 West near Chimney Rock Road, after earlier crash. Seeing slow traffic on Patton Avenue in Asheville right now.
UPDATE (7:52 A.M.): Now, Highway Patrol is on the scene of wreck on Fruitland Road, off Chimney Rock Road near Hendersonville. Hearing reports that road is blocked. Highway Patrol says property damage only in this crash.
UPDATE (7:40 A.M.) The D.O.T. says all lanes have reopened on I-26 West near exit 49, Chimney Rock Rd. exit. Heavy congestion is reported between mile marker 53-49 on I-26 West from earlier vehicle crash.
(7:20 A.M.) The D.O.T. reports that all westbound lanes are closed on I-26 West near Exit 49, US-64 (Chimney Rock Road) exit due to earlier vehicle crash.
(6:50 A.M.) Highway Patrol is on the scene of a wreck on I-26 West. It's at the 48 mile marker. That's between the Upward Road and Chimney Rock Road exits. Slow traffic is reported in that area. Minor injuries are reported.
Dense fog will decrease visibility on the roads this morning. Heavy fog is reported along 25/70 from Marshall to Weaverville.
Tonight at 9, construction begins on the tunnel on I-40 East in Haywood County. A lane will be closed on I-40 East between the Harmon Den (exit 7) and Fines Creek Road (exit 15).
The work lasts through Friday. Crews are working overnights from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. The D.O.T. says they're taking samples at the tunnel site to determine future repairs.
