Hendersonville Armed Robbery Arrest

A Hendersonville man is arrested for robbing a gas station, after authorities receive a tip that the suspect might be staying in a tent downtown.  55-year-old Robert Henderson, Jr. is charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.  Investigators say it was Saturday night when Henderson walked into the Marathon-Triangle Stop on North Main Street.  He was caught on a security camera, pulling his sweatshirt up over much of his face.  Police say he then pointed what could have been a weapon from under the sweatshirt, threatened the clerk and demanded cash.  Today, business district Sergeant Robert Merz received a that led him to the tent pitched behind the People Being Jesus kitchen.  He realized he'd met the suspect once before.  "I didn't spook him.  I called a few people to see if they could bring me a copy of the video down just to confirm it was who i thought it was.  Based on clothing and pictures of the face in the video, I was able to determine that it was the person who had robbed the store," said Merz.  Robert Henderson is in the Henderson County Detention Center under a $25,000 bond.   By Frank Kracher   Follow Frank on Twitter @FrankKracher
