Popular Trainer Injured In Ring
When the horse Amy Barrington was working with returned to the barn Wednesday afternoon without a rider, friends went looking.
A friend found renowned trainer and professional event rider Amy Barrington unconscious on the floor of the riding ring, with injuries suggesting she had been kicked in the head.
Barrington was taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital where she remains in a coma with critical brain injuries.
But instead of sitting vigil, friends have mobilized for a woman they call exceptional.
"Amy's one of those people that she's probably got enough talent that she should be charging twice what's she's charging, but she doesn't," said fellow professional rider and long-time friend Beth Perkins.
"When you're at a show and you see Amy - she's got this crowd of girls and women around her looking up to her," Shari Golitz said, calling Berrington humble and always willing to help.
Berrington was described as incredible generous by friends, and now hundreds are giving back by helping to raise money for the family and keep Berrington's coaching and stabling business afloat while she remains in the hospital.
Monday afternoon there were more than 2,200 "Likes" on the Amy Barrington Recovery Page on Facebook, which her husband updates daily.
Nancy Wilson of the Tryon Riding and Hunt Club says that checks have been coming in from people across the country.
On a separate fundraising site, $16,445 had been raised.
