School Bus Monitoring

Buncombe County Schools have equipped all buses in the county with GPS tracking devices.

The units allow school administrators to track bus locations and critical vehicle information in real time.

Bus speeds and routes, as well as engine diagnostics, can all be tracked online but only by authorized school employees.

Transportation officials say the units increase efficiency but most importantly student safety.

Joe Hough, Buncombe Co. Schools, "to be able to see your buses, where they're at, and give your school a sense of comfort and the community a sense of comfort...Priceless, absolutely priceless."

The actual price of the units is about $10,000/month, but transportation officials think they can make up that cost in operational efficiencies.
