Yelton Resigns After Daily Show Interview
Don Yelton has resigned from his position with the Buncombe County Republican Party after appearing on "The Daily Show."
Yelton used racial slurs in a taped interview about North Carolina's voter I.D. law that aired on Wednesday. The state and local Republican party asked Yelton to resign from his position as a precinct chair on Thursday. Yelton announced his resignation during an interview with local talk radio.
Buncombe County GOP chairman Henry Mitchell said Yelton had not told anyone with the GOP about the interview. "It just sets us back...that's all it does," Mitchell said.
Yelton tells News 13 he feels he is being treated unfairly by local Republicans. Yelton says he's been asked to resign from the Republican party altogether. He says he is giving it some thought.
