B&E Suspect Arrested After Escape
Just before noon on Friday, Asheville Police recaptured a suspect who escaped from police custody Thursday night.
They say they found Jesse McNeil Bridgers on Depot Street at around 11AM and arrested him without incident.
Bridgers was brought into custody for questioning yesterday, when he got up and walked out of a secure area.
Police released a mugshot of Bridgers last night saying he was being questioned about a recent breaking and entering in west Asheville. They also released a photo from a surveillance camera.
Police said he was not believed to be armed or dangerous.
This morning News 13 was able to confirm, through the magistrates office, that police this morning issued a warrant for his arrest on an escape charge. That means he was in police custody when he escaped, raising questions about how that could happen.
We've also learned that Bridgers has numerous warrants for his arrest for larceny, weapons and drug charges.
We'll continue to follow this story and have much more tonight on News 13.
