Whittier Shooting Investigation
News 13 has learned 53-year-old Dean Williamson was shot in his own rural Jackson County home Thursday around 12:30 p.m. and flown to Mission Hospital.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said the victim, Williamson, was in critical condition. Investigators questioned his wife Debbie Williamson, but would not go into any detail as to whether she was a suspect saying instead the shooting took place after a fight between the couple.
"I saw an officer with blue lights coming up the hill and I thought oh my gosh," said Mica Garrison, a neighbor.
"Debbie shot Dean," said Roberta Hoke, a neighbor. "I'm not exactly sure where."
Hoke has known the couple for years. She sold them the property where they live just up the hill from here on Old Glory Ridge Road in Whittier. She says police have had to come out to the couple's home numerous times.
"None of us have witnessed actual punching," said Hoke. "We've heard arguments and there has been numerous times the law has been up here for domestic violence."
Hoke doesn't know the circumstances that led to the shooting and whether it may have been in self-defense, but she said she feels sorry for the victim, Dean Williamson.
"I'd hate for anyone to die over something like this," said Hoke. "I've been a victim of domestic violence before I know how that is. It can happen to men, women, it's not just a one-sided thing here."
