"Babe's" New Wheels
A McDowell County pet charity that had been ripped-off got some much needed help from News 13 viewers, making it possible for a disabled dog to have a special way to get around.
"Babe" is a Chihuahua puppy that was born paralyzed. She was fitted on Monday for a canine wheelchair, at the Animal Hospital of Marion.
This followed the theft of hundreds of novelty license plates used in "Paws And Claws" fundraisers. The group found itself without the $230 to pay for "Babe's" chair, but after our story about the burglary aired, more than $2,500 in donations came pouring-in.
"I feel so blessed that we were able to do this and that the people of Western North Carolina responded", said "Paws And Claws" director Carol Ferebee.
"Babe's" owner Shirley Goree told us, "everybody that sent something in and prayed for us, may god bless them from now on, and i can't thank them enough.
"Babe's" veterinarian says it will take about a week for the puppy to get used to her new mode of transportation. The extra money collected will be used to help other needy pets in McDowell County.
