Clerk Fired After Being Attacked
An Asheville store clerk was attacked and beaten-up by a customer and fired a few days later.
Sandra Rymer says she was working at the Citi Stop on Haywood Rd. on Tuesday when a customer attacked her after she asked him to remove his helmet while inside the store. Rymer says the man hit her in the jaw then pushed her to the ground. Rymer says she tried to fight the man off.
Rymer says she was put on paid leave by the store while they reviewed the security footage. Rymer says she was fired on Thursday and the store's owner told her she didn't follow company policy. "We've never been trained what to do in a violent situation...they've never told us not to fight back," Rymer said.
News 13 contact the owner of Citi Stop. He said all employees must follow rules laid out on the company's handbook but said he couldn't comment directly on personnel matters.
