Neighbors in the Mt. Carmel Acres community say something needs to be done with a foreclosed and vacant home that's become a health and public safety concern. The home is located at 100 Wicklow Drive and has been vacant for several months. The Buncombe county clerk of court has a foreclosure filing on record at the courthouse that was filed in 2012. But the bank that's foreclosing has postponed the sale and left the home in limbo.
Neighbors say the grass and weeds have grown over 3 to 4 feet tall. Debris is scattered around the property and rodents and stray animals have taken refuge on the property. Neighbors worry someone might get hurt because the home is on a blind curve and the overgrown vegetation blocks drivers view.
The county inspections office says it will sent an inspector to look at the property to see if there are any health or safety violations that would allow them to take action. But county officials say there is no ordinance for the appearance of a property or lawn maintenance.
