Teacher Walkout Planned
North Carolina teachers are pressuring lawmakers to raise classroom funding and their pay. Some teachers are planning to walk out of their classrooms next month in protest. The walkout was started as a grassroots movement on Facebook. It is scheduled for November 4th.
Teachers at Isaac Dickson Elementary School in Asheville, NC say they won't participate in the walkout but hope lawmakers listen if other teachers do walk out. The teachers met with Rep. Susan Fischer on Thursday afternoon to talk about the concerns they have about teaching within the means of a tight budget. Fischer says she isn't sure a walkout is the best idea but understands teachers are desperate to have their voices heard.
