One dead after West Asheville Moped Crash

One person is dead and another seriously injured after a head-on collision in west Asheville Friday afternoon.

18-year-old Eric House of Asheville died at Mission Hospital overnight, according to Sgt. David Romick with the Asheville Police Department.  A 16-year-old passenger riding with House is being treated for serious injuries. Her name has not been released by police. 

The accident happened Friday on Homeway Road at about 2:20 p.m. A 1998 Nissan pickup truck being driven by 48-year-old Phyllis Sheppard of Asheville, was traveling northwest on Homeway Road. House was driving a moped southeast on Homeway Road when he left his lane and struck the Nissan head-on.  Both House and his 16-year-old passenger were thrown from the moped.  Sheppard was not injured. No charges have been filed in this case.
