Bobcats In Town
Professional basketball makes a return to Asheville. The Charlotte Bobcats opened training camp at UNCA Tuesday. But this year, the play is going beyond the practice court.
The NBA action will move over to the U.S. Cellular Center for a pre-season game against the Atlanta Hawks. The teams will be playing on brand new hardwood floor just installed for the Southern Conference Tournament, but up to NBA specifications. It works out well for everyone.
"Bobcats having their training camp up at UNCA makes it really easy for us to have an exhibition game here. With a brand new basketball court behind me, it's a great opportunity for both the Bobcats and Asheville to bring the NBA to Asheville, and really have a great time," said Chris Corl, U.S. Cellular Center General Manager.
There is also what you might call the "MJ Factor". NBA Hall Of Famer Michael Jordan owns the Bobcats and spent time in Asheville last year.
"His Airness" is a huge draw and may be the biggest part of the Bobcats "buzz". No sightings so far, but we have until next Tuesday night's game with the Hawks.
