Winter Weather Costs Thousands
With the impending bad weather Kim and Tom Wood decided they'd take no chances with their daughter's travel plans.
"Our daughter was supposed to fly in on Wednesday and we started watching the news and we saw a big storm was coming so we decided to try to get her out of Birmingham as fast as we could," said Kim. The couple paid another $250 on top of a $680 round trip ticket so their daughter a sophomore attending the University of Alabama could fly Monday night instead of Wednesday.
Rain and freezing rain began to fall around Western North Carolina at 9pm Monday night. At the airport the tarmac stayed dry through 11pm. But the air then began to sputter some drizzle as the night progressed and the low pressure center of the storm began to approach.
