Extended Leaf Season

The weather is right  for one last weekend of brilliant fall colors. The Blue Ridge Parkway is crowded with visitors.

It was just a few weeks ago people thought the season might be over. The Pisgah Inn was forced to close in early October during the government shutdown. The inn was forced to cancel room reservations and lost about a week of business. They say this year's long leaf season helped business and despite the shutdown, it ended up being a decent year.

Friday was the last day the Pisgah Inn was open. Staff is now working to winterize the property. It will reopen again in April.

Park rangers say in a few weeks, they'll be shutting down the parkway from mile marker 376 to Mount Mitchell State Park to do road repairs. If you have any trips planned, you'll need to find an alternate route.
