What was supposed to be a night of fun turned tragic in Spartanburg. Two accidents happened during neighborhood Halloween festivities.
12-year-old Harrison Maguire is recovering from surgery after suffering multiple broken bones. Friends say Maguire is a brilliant student at Gable Middle School, he just didn't see the oncoming traffic.
Just a few miles away, another student wasn't so lucky.
A 17-year-old was struck by a car and died Thursday night while trick-or-treating. Erica Adrianna Fields was a junior at Spartanburg High School. She was hit by an SUV along Fernwood Drive near the Cottonwood Trail. Fields is survived by four siblings, including a younger sister at the same school. Counselors were on hand at Spartanburg High School Friday to help students and staff.
Spartanburg Police say Fields was wearing a dark costume with no reflective gear when she tried to cross the road.
No charges have been filed against either of the two drivers in these accidents, but the investigation is ongoing.
