Stressing Holiday Shopping Safety
Black Friday weekend is typically pretty much as advertised. But some think the thrill of the hunt, can make you the hunted.
"Losing focus, the excitement of this deal," says one shopper. "The shopping frenzy. It can get very dangerous out here."
The Buncombe County Sheriff's department urges you to be vigilant this holiday shopping season.
They urge you to never shop alone, and park in areas with good lighting when possible. Authorities also say you should keep cash in your front shirt pocket instead of your purse or wallet to make it harder for potential pick-pockets.
"If you're by yourself you're setting yourself for something to happen, anything could happen," says one woman leaving Walmart in Arden.
"And also we never leave merchandise exposed in the car," says shopper Stephanie Hubbard. "Cause you you know people are walking around, looking at cars."
"I wouldn't pull out my money in front of a whole group of people," one man tells us.
The pursuit of a deal, often leaves us vulnerable to the steal.
"People are mean," one woman says.
