Overturned Bean Truck

The driver of a tractor trailer that overturned and spilled cans of beans on Interstate 40 near the Tennessee line is charged with exceeding a safe speed.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says Jusuf Barjic was not hurt when his rig tipped over at Exit 7 and spilled thousands of cans of beans over the road.

The investigation shows his load shifted causing him to lose control. Weather was not a factor.

Westbound traffic was detoured for hours off the westbound ramp and then back up the on ramp to re-access I-40 west.

"Crazy. We're going to have to go around it.  It's going to definitely make it slower for today," said Mike Moavero from Georgia.

Westbound lanes have since reopened.
