Purple Heart Awarded
A mountain soldier severely injured in Afghanistan received received a big honor. Spc. Alex Santos thought he was coming to the East Henderson game to give his brother an award. Instead, he received his Purple Heart.
It was his family's idea to surprise him with the award. Santos' mother, Ana, says the Army lost his Purple Heart paperwork and that is why he didn't receive it when he came home two years ago. Santos' mother says she asked the Army to mail her the award so they could do something special.
Spc. Santos arrived home to the mountains in February of 2012. He has severe brain and back injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
