Murder Suspect in Court
A man in Leicester accused of murdering his own mother and step-father went before a judge today.
Deputies charged Vincent Franklin with two counts of first degree murder yesterday in the shooting death of Joy and Andre Runne.
Franklin showed no emotion as the judge told him he faces the death penalty or life in prison if he's convicted of the charges.
He is also facing 17 years in prison on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
He stood with public defender Leann Melton as he requested representation from her office.
Deputies arrested Franklin after a family member found Joy and Andre Runne shot to death in their home yesterday morning.
Deputies say he also stole their blue Toyota Tacoma pickup that police found at the Roadway Inn on Brevard Road.
Franklin was also charged earlier this month with assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, DWI, and hit and run after a stabbing incident at the Econo Lodge on Tunnel Road.
Two people were injured and he received a stab wound as well. He was scheduled to appear next month on those charges.
Vincent Franklin is being held with no bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 12th.
