Upstate Apartment Fire

One woman is seriously hurt and about a dozen people are displaced, after an apartment fire in the Upstate.

It happened around 6:30pm Wednesday night at the Hunting Square Apartment complex in Gaffney.

The fire caused smoke damage in six apartments and burned two others.

Several residents were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The woman who rents the apartment where the fire started was airlifted to Augusta Burn Center with serious burns.

The Red Cross will house some of the displaced residents, but it is not known for how long.

Structural work is needed at the apartments, but they were not a total loss.

Jamie Caggiano, Jr., Gaffney Fire Chief, "Hopefully she's going to be okay. We know she's got some significant burns but hopefully she'll come okay on that. Hopefully it's not related to space heaters, we'll find that out."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
