Drivers on all major interstates through Asheville received a Thanksgiving treat, thanks to the fact Tuesday night's winter storm blew through quickly.
There was minimal snow accumulation on Future I-26, I-40, US 19/23, and all secondary roads in the immediate Asheville area. News 13 saw Department of Transportation salt trucks on I-40. But by Wednesday afternoon, roads were clear and only secondary roads were getting an additional round of salt laid down.
Bruce Williams was driving with wife and two young children in his minivan from Indianapolis to Raleigh to visit family for Thanksgiving. He said coming eastbound on I-40 was slightly unnerving.
"There was some ice on the road. The mountains were a little rough," said Williams. "A little slick because the snow was coming down just when we were in the windy parts up on I-40. But overall it wasn't that bad."
