Man, Dog Rescued From River
A dog gets trapped in a dangerous logjam on the French Broad River and his owner goes in to save him. It happened in the Penrose Community of Transylvania County.
John Wayne Hardison is a tree service company owner and was checking out the logjam for a bid to remove it. He says his dog fell off the bank into the water and became tangled in the debris. He walked along tree trunks in the river to reach the dog, got in the water and used a limb to pull the dog to him. Hardison says he decided not to fight the current, so he called 911.
The Little River Swiftwater Rescue Crew rescued him and his dog with a motorized pontoon boat. The two were not injured.
News 13 first showed the logjam Tuesday in a story that reported how dangerous logjams can be, and that commissioners have appropriated $20,000 to remove them.
