Fundraiser In Memory Of Crash Victim

A News Years Eve Run/Walk 5k Fundraiser will be held in memory of Danny Taylor on December 31st.

38-year-old Swain County native, Danny Taylor, was driving a fully loaded truck down a steep grade on Williamson Road when it crashed. Troopers say crews were busy doing bridge work at the intersection with Conleys Creek Road. When Taylor's brakes failed, troopers say, he maneuvered the truck to avoid hitting them. The truck crossed the bridge and slammed into a bank. Troopers say Taylor died at the scene.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bryson City's Recreation park Pavilion. Registration starts at 2 p.m. The cost is $20, or $15 if you register online.

The run/walk race starts at the bottom of the Recreation Park Pavilion. Participants will follow West Deep Creek Rd to East Deep Creek Road around to Deep Creek Church Roadd back around toward the Recreation Park Pavilion to finish. It is a flat route. Upon registration for this event, participants will be entered for a $100 bank card drawing. Medallions will be given to first thru third place race winners of each age group.

The event is a fundraiser for Swain County's 2014 youth baseball/softball season.
