Criminal History Of Suspect
46-year-old Christopher Ballentine of Cullowhee is facing a series of child sex crimes. But he has a criminal history in Jackson County dating back more than a decade.
Ballentine is accused of luring a 12-year-old girl into his apartment, giving her beer, and forcing her to perform sex acts.
Ballentine was charged with assaulting women in 2001 and 2003. But the charges were dropped.
The first case was dismissed as long as he had no contact with the victim. And the victim did not pursue prosecution in the second case.
On the child sex charges, residents say the case should be handled through the courts.
"I'm sure there are people that probably think differently. But I think, you know, we should trust the justice system to do the right thing," said Jayne Buchanan of Cullowhee.
Ballentine has a book for sale on Amazon.com called "Arguments For Dummies-Heavy Mental...the game! A bipolar's perspective of the truth in every language.
The cover shows a younger picture of him wearing a strait jacket. Ballentine is also pitching it on his Twitter page.
On this latest chapter of charges including two counts of sexual offense with a child, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and two counts of indecent liberties, residents want to see justice.
"I mean I definitely feel sorry, so sorry for her and definitely want to see justice taken care of," said Jamie Price.
Ballentine is scheduled for court February 19th.
