State Debit Card Hacked
Hackers clean-out a local woman's state-issued debit card account that contained money she was saving to spend on her children.
Brandy Owenby had been saving to buy her three children just what they wanted for Christmas.
"It was $300 and when I went to check my account I only had $12.48 in it," said Owenby.
The money stolen from this smiONE debit account used by the state of North Carolina to bank child support for moms like Brandy. She called the card's customer service.
"They've told me they've seen several victims being victimized running their account dry," said Owenby.
The thieves are using a scheme similar to the fake clone card fraud News 13 broke at the Bojangles chain last week.
