Driver Faces Indecent Liberties Charge
A Henderson County bus driver's arrest makes some passengers wonder about the safety of their kids.
70-year-old Johnny Wayne Johnson was arrested Thursday and charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Johnson was employed by WNC Community Action and worked behind the wheel for Apple Country Transportation.
According to the Chief Deputy Frank Stout of the Henderson Sheriff's department, the child in this case is less than 10-years-old.
"The victim was associated with Mr. Johnson and that connection was made through his job as a driver," Stout explains.
Apple Country Transportation has no comment about the investigation. Authorities are looking into the possibility that this wasn't the driver's only victim.
"With the connection and the opportunity for him to be in contact with other victims," says Stout. "And that's why the investigation is ongoing."
More charges could be pending.
"It is a little scary because a lot of people, we really trust the drivers," says Beth Hernandez of Hendersonville. "I've seen a lot of kids go to school on the buses."
Johnson is out on bond. If you have any information related to Johnson, contact the Henderson County Sheriff's department.
